Movie Screening & Discussion: Short Films & Contemporary China

DePaul Chinese Studies Program in collaboration with Asian Pop-up Cinema and Beijing Film Academy will host a movie screening event to showcase four short films written/directed/performed by graduates from the renowned Beijing Film Academy. The movie screening will be immediately followed with a Q&A session with two DePaul China experts: Professor Li Jin, Director of Chinese Studies and Professor Chi Jang Yin in Department of Art, Media and Design. The two China experts will address the social, cultural, and political struggles in contemporary Chinese society and how they are presented with various filming techniques in the four films.

Free and open to the public!

Launch Party: Minor in Commercial Chinese Studies

DePaul Chinese Studies Program is launching a new minor in Commercial Chinese Studies. This interdisciplinary minor offers a focused curriculum on Chinese business language, business organizational structures and operations, and the larger social cultural environment pertinent to understanding business operations in modern China. It is designed for students who are solely interested in developing functional knowledge and skills needed to work with Chinese-speaking business professionals in or beyond China. The minor requires students to demonstrate both Chinese language proficiency and knowledge of Chinese business operations and contexts.

Come to celebrate the launch of the minor and enjoy a panel discussion with Chinese business experts on “Are you ready for China? Doing Business with China”. Food and beverages will be provided.

2016 US Midwest “Chinese Bridge” Speech Contest

DePaul University will host the 15th US Midwest “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Speech Contest on April 23, 2016. 70 Contestants from 15 universities in the Midwest region will be at DePaul to showcase their Chinese language skills and cultural talent. See this poster for more information.
